Are you on the fence about updating your Word to Word ? There are several new cosmetic and content features that might help you decide to upgrade. If you are using an Exchange server, then I would definitely say that you want to upgrade. It is great to have the shared drive feature in an easy to access place within Word. Additionally, Office has integrated the Microsoft SkyDrive into all of its applications.
If you have a OneDrive account formerly known as SkyDrive , you can save any of your items to the cloud. See Figure 1. Another nice perk is the touch screen compatibility in the version. Using a touch screen device with Word will amaze you with the ease of swiping, tapping, and zooming in and out. One of my favorite new ways to use Word is in searching for photos. They have integrated the Bing search engine to help you look for images within Creative Commons that are free for use.
You can also search for online videos using Bing, YouTube or even with an embed code from another website. See Figure 2. To the right side of any inserted picture or video, you will have a layout options button. See Figure 3. When you click on this button, you will be able to adjust the wrapping and layout. See Figure 4 for the Layout Options for a picture or image. As you are working with the images and moving them around in the new Word , you will notice green lines that appear from time to time.
These are alignment guides that make it easier to center or align images between the margins, within the text or with other images. I was VERY excited about this! You no longer need a plug-in or separate application. You can re-save the file, as well. If you work with large documents, you will be very happy with the new sections feature.
To the left of each of your headings, you will now see a small triangle. Click on that triangle to be able to collapse or expand it.
See Figure 5. It is easiest if you use the Styles like Heading 1, Heading 2, etc. Remember that you can always start with a basic style like Heading 1 and customize and even rename it. There are even more new features than this in Word , but these are some of the ones that will most likely affect your business use of the application. For me, upgrading to Word has definitely been a benefited my daily work! Cloud Drive If you are using an Exchange server, then I would definitely say that you want to upgrade.
