Handheld Sound. Quiet Music. Boom Interactive. You can freeze and scan through this buffer to build layers of sound over time. Grain Envelope is a drawable 16 segment envelope that will radically change the sound of the grain depending on how the envelope is drawn. You can even run the grain through a filter and control the cutoff with the envelope output to get even crazier results.

Grain Control will let you control any number of grain blocks from one panel. You can easily control the position and size of every grain in your patch this way.

Neon has had its display updated so that the drawn bands line up with the mouse. Neon is based on the Buchla Spectral Processor. It can act as a static filter bank, an equalizer, a formant filter, or even a harmonic distorter.

The shift knob will let you go down below audio rates to shape CV signals. The bands can be animated with a bank of internal modulation waves that can affect both amplitude and pitch. It is possible to morph between the modulated and unmodulated filter states to create dramatic timbral changes. So, you have access to a panel, structure, snapshots, browser and properties windows.

You can insert instruments and apply built-in modules, such as math, signal path, oscillator, sampler, sequencer, filter, delay. Furthermore, you can save, duplicate or delete instruments, enable automatic voice reduction, enable event loops, change the sample frequency rate and control rate, toggle between external synchronization and MIDI clock out, start and stop the clock, as well as enable REAKTOR to ignore tempo change.

Additionally, you can use macro e. Add the result to a knob with a range of 11 to with a step size of 1 and name this knob Coarse. Finally add that to another knob with a range of 0. This can be connected to the P inputs of our four oscillators. Lastly, in the oscillator Macro, create a control on the W input for our pulse pulse width and name it PW. We can worry about this more later; for now, this is the basis of our oscillator and can be duplicated several times:.

Drag the cables while holding cmd to create a new input or inputs can be created within the module. Name the ports as you wish, something like Osc 1, Osc 2 etc. Our new Macro can be named Osc Mix, or something similar. Create controls for each Lvl input. With some tidying up on the front panel we should have something that looks like this:.

Hopefully you can begin to see how powerful and customisable Reaktor is, even with this simple design. The ensemble for this synth can be downloaded here. Check out part two here. Before Starting There are some things worth knowing before you actually get into building anything in Reaktor, as the interface can be slightly jarring.

Building a Monosynth Now we can start actually building our synth! After a bit of tidying up our panel we have something like this: Of course you can style yours however you want, but this is fine for me at the moment.
