PC shutting down automatically after keeping it idle for some time – Microsoft Community – Question Info

I have a computer in my environment that has been randomly shutting down when idle. It has never shut down while in use. The computer is running Windows 10 feature update fully patched and hardware diagnostics reports no hardware issues.

I have went through the windows update, power, and sleep settings. In the event log looking at event I see the following. I’m not sure why RuntimeBroker. There are no pending windows updates and the store app is disabled via GPO. Can you test by disabling it? I’ve seen this happen before because of heat.. You would have to be running some old, or very poorly cooled, and well insulated hardware.

Usually they will kick off at around c, but I doubt that is your issue, its most likely the way the broker is configured.

I would disable the broker and see if you still have the symptom. I am not saying to leave it like that, but once you know for sure that’s the issue you can go from there. Have you tried checking to see if it is the BSOD? You might have the blue screen disabled and it just powers down instead.

You can get a Blue Screen of Death Viewer here. Does anyone else work on it? It sounds like it is trying to push updates through but you said you checked it. The user it is initiating may hint at why, is it a user you recognize? I would say maybe check the security audit log to see if anyone is initiating it instead.

Another thought is that could there be some corruption like a memory leak in RuntimeBroker. It is actually shutting down too right, not just restarting? Check event log ID and you should get a list of all times it is happening.

Maybe there is a scheduled task somewhere also triggering it that you aren’t aware of? This topic has been locked by an administrator and is no longer open for commenting.
